I’ve recently given my skincare routine a total overhaul. I never really took care of my skin and it’s starting to catch up to me. After years of smoking and never wearing sunscreen my 36 year old skin is starting to show its years. About a year ago I had a rash on my face that just wouldn’t go away. I went to a dermatologist she put me on an antibiotic and told me to use either Cetaphil or CeraVe washes and moisturizers. Since my skin is very sensitive she said it would be perfect for me since neither product is harsh. The face washes just didn’t cut it for me so I started using Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover and as a moisturizer I used Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer and every once in a while an exfoliator, whether something from Lush or a sample from Sephora. That was it, nothing for anti aging or any other issue my skin had. While both products worked fine they just didn’t benefit my skin in any way. Fast forward to about a month ago and I finally woke up and realized I needed to really start taking care of my skin before it was beyond repair. With so many products out there is was hard to figure out where to start. My main concern is anti aging, I have some fine lines around my mouth, under my eyes, and between my eyebrows yet my skin is very sensitive and I have reactions to most products. My T zone is oily, I have some redness and texture on my cheeks and around my nose, some visible pores, and some random patches of discoloration all over. Basically anything that can be wrong with your skin I have it! So I did lots of research and I found what is now my routine. For now it works and I haven’t had any irritation. I like to get the small versions of products whenever available in case its doesn’t work for me. I’m still on the hunt for a non irritating, super moisturizing eye cream so if anyone has any suggestions leave me a comment! Ok now on to the products I use.
I wake up every morning dry, dry lips and dry face. So I always keep lip balm on my bedside table so the first thing I do when I wake up it slather my lips. Just like my face my lips are sensitive to many products too, but this Tokyomilk Dark Femme Fatale Collection Lip Elixer is amazing! It’s soft and hydrating and the scent is life! Have you ever put on a lip product that smells so good you just want to eat it? Well this is it! I have it in the scent salted caramel and oh my it’s so good. They have 6 flavors but this is the only one I’ve tried but I will definitely be giving the others a try. I got this from Sephora for $7. The product info states its a silky blend of sweet jasmine and bee balm, laced with crushed extracts of aloe leaf and vitamin E. The scent description is sweet cream, sea salt, caramelized sugar and toasted vanilla bean. I don’t get any salt flavor, just a warm vanilla caramel. I definitely recommend trying it out.
Next I like to give my face a few sprays of the Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist (Target $15) I was using this as part of my night routine but felt my skin need a little extra hydration in the morning. I give myself a few sprays and it awakens my skin and gives me a nice boost of hydration after sleeping. It has a really light really pretty floral scent thats not too over powering. I will definitely be keeping this in my rotation for a while.
The next thing I do after I wake up is put a swipe of Milk Makeup cooling water gel stick under each eye. I have pretty bad allergies and I wake up with really puffy eyes. The cooling feeling of this product gets rid of the puffy feeling and really hydrates and awakens my eyes. I keep mine in the fridge for an extra cooling affect. What it is: a soothing sea water and firming caffeine gel stick for an instant boost of moisturize. I purchased it from Sephora for $24. I definitely recommend this if you want to give your eyes a little boost any time of day, I just wouldn’t recommend putting it over makeup as it would most likely pull the makeup off.
When I finally shower and wash my face for the day I’ve been using this No. 7 Beautiful Skin Age Defense Cleanser (Ulta $11.49) It’s formulated to revive dull, lifeless skin. An antioxidant complex helps protect against environmental factors to lead to more radiant healthy skin. It claims to leave skin feeling not only clean but soft too. I like this product a lot because it’s a lotion like consistency. So it doesn’t bubble up when you use it but it also doesn’t make your skin feel tight and dry after using it. It leaves my skin feeling really soft.
Once my face is clean I use the Pixi Glow Tonic (Target $15) I’ve always been afraid to use toners because they always dry me out and really irritate my skin but this one is gentle enough for all skin types. I heard so many good things about this so I had to try it. What it does: exfoliates, brightens and smooths skin for an instant glow enhancer. I wouldn’t say I’m really glowy after using this but it doesn’t make me feel extra clean and smooth and it has a really nice smell.
Once my face is toned I go in with the Pixi Vitamin Wakeup Mist (Target $15) What it is: a boosting treatment toner mist gives a revitalized awakened effect to complexion. Strengthens and tones while adding hydration and a protective veil. This has a really nice smell like the other Pixi products and it does give your skin a revitalized felling. I really like the Pixi products because not only are they affordable but they are also for all skin types so I get to try things I wouldn’t normally try.
After the wakeup mist is dry I go in with this Olehenriksen Truth Serum. I purchased this as a 3 piece set from Sephora for $72, (I’ll talk about the other 2 items in my nighttime routine post). You can also buy this product separately for $48 for the same 1oz. size. What it is: supercharged with True-C Complex and boosted with collagen, this powerful anti aging serum helps brighten, visibly firm, and deliver all-day hydration. Honestly the first time I tried this I hated it. I didn’t like the orange scent (personal preference) and it was so sticky! It left a film on my face that was very uncomfortable feeling and it kind of peeled a little. I was so disappointed but willing to try a few more times. So the next day I used way less, I used about 1/4 of a pump instead of a full pump. Yes it was still sticky as I applied it but it absorbed quickly and didn’t leave my face peely looking. So basically all you need is a very thin layer which is great because it will last quite a while! I can’t say I have noticed any visible differences from using this but its only been about a month so I’m hoping after longer use I will start to see some changes in my skin.
Lastly I moisturize with the Dr. Jart+ Water Drop Hydrating Moisturizer. I received this as a sample from Sephora but you can buy it for $36. What it is: a lightweight refreshing moisturizer featuring a special emulsion system with droplets packed full of brightening and nourishing ingredients. The innovative formula bursts into tiny water droplets when applied, brightening up dull, lackluster skin. Relieves dry sensitive skin, revitalizes, and prevents visible signs of aging with concentrated antioxidants. What I love about this is the texture, it says its an emulsion and thats really the only way to explain it. It doesn’t have a texture like anything I’ve ever used. It’s not like a lotion or cream or serum. It has a light feel to it and it just melts into the skin. It’s perfect for my oily skin and doesn’t make my face feel heavy or greasy and keeps me really hydrated throughout the day. Definitely a repurchase once I run out!
